YMCA Piranha Aquatic Club (YPAC) is a YMCA youth swim team sponsored by the South Oakland Family YMCA. We are also affiliated with the United States of America Swimming (USA).
The YPAC mission is to support the YMCA competitive swimming philosophy and develop a strong program for swimmers of all levels to participate and excel in a healthy sport in a fun environment. The central themes in the YMCA Philosophy are:
- teaching the fundamental skills
- encouraging lifetime involvement in physical activity
- strengthening the values of fitness, health, self-respect and respect for others.

The YPAC team follows the school districts’ schedules for practices. As there is no school in observance of Martin Luther King Day, there will be no practice for any age groups on Monday the 16th.
The FFYS meet scheduled for this weekend is at Waterford Mott.

YPAC is proud to announce that Qenton Stinson will be returning for the 2011-2012 season to coach at YPAC. He will be coaching for the 10 & under age groups.
This will mark Qenton’s fourth year as a YPAC coach. For the past 4 summers he has coached at the Pleasant Ridge Piranhas. Qenton swam and also coached at Detroit Northern High School.
He is extremely excited to see all the familiar faces and get to know the new swimmers as well.

Anyone who still needs “States” embroidered on their Championship Shirt MUST bring it to practice today in order to have it completed. This is a drop-dead deadline that cannot be changed.

On Thursday, December 30th, YPAC will be having a Holiday “Fun” Practice! All age groups to swim at Ferndale High School from 11:00 – 1:00 pm. Pizza will be provided to swimmers. Please bring your own beverages.
The week of December 20th, practice will be at normal times for 12 and unders. 13 & ups will practice from regular start times until 7:45pm. There will be no practice on Friday, December 24th or Sunday, December 26th.
December 27th-29th, all practices will be at Ferndale High School:

9 and 10’s – 12:00-1:15pm
11 and 12’s – 11:00-12:30pm

YPAC has adopted two families this holiday season. One of the families has Mom, Step Dad and two children, David age 7 and Katie age 9. David wears size 7/8 clothes and 1.5 shoes and Katie wears size 6 or 6x clothes and size 1 shoes. They would like some games, board games and some books. On Tuesday, September 15th, Shaquille O’Neal challenges Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps to a series of swimming races in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Loyola University in Maryland. If you are interested in watching, tune into Shaq VS on ABC at 9pm.
