YMCA Piranha Aquatic Club (YPAC) is a YMCA youth swim team sponsored by the South Oakland Family YMCA. We are also affiliated with the United States of America Swimming (USA).
The YPAC mission is to support the YMCA competitive swimming philosophy and develop a strong program for swimmers of all levels to participate and excel in a healthy sport in a fun environment. The central themes in the YMCA Philosophy are:
- teaching the fundamental skills
- encouraging lifetime involvement in physical activity
- strengthening the values of fitness, health, self-respect and respect for others.
The difference between TRY and TRIUMPH is just a little bit of “UMPH!” Go Piranhas!

Practice Update: For the 13 and ups, starting January 6th, drylands will resume from 5:30 – 6pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

YPAC has adopted two families this holiday season. One of the families has Mom, Step Dad and two children, David age 7 and Katie age 9. David wears size 7/8 clothes and 1.5 shoes and Katie wears size 6 or 6x clothes and size 1 shoes. They would like some games, board games and some books. The second family has 5 children – girls ages 20,15,13 and twin 11 year old boys Jaelin and Kaelin. Please contact SuAnne Sharef at axongroup@aol.com for more information.
YPAC TEAM BOWLING PARTY will be held on Tuesday December 29th 2009 at 1pm
There will be 2 hours unlimited bowling, pizza and pop. RSVP and payment must be placed in the black box at the YMCA no later than December 22nd 6pm.

Hand knit caps are available for $10 each with proceeds going to the National Team. We have lots of colors including YPAC colors, blue and yellow! YPAC team swim suits, team t shirts (everyone gets one) and team swim caps (everyone gets one) will be available for pick up on Tuesday, October 20th at the South Oakland YMCA from 3:45 – 4:30pm. If you cannot pick up at this time, contact Julie Buccalo, Merchandise Chair, to arrange pick up. Hoodies, shorts, towels and hats are not in yet – they should be available in the next few days. If you ordered a Parka or Warm Up suit from Varsity Shop, they should be available in 10 days. A notice will be sent out when these items are available.

Practice for 13 and Ups will start at 6:00 pm on Wednesday the 16th and Friday the 18th. The regular start time of 5:30pm on Wednesdays and Fridays will resume next week.
On Tuesday, September 15th, Shaquille O’Neal challenges Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps to a series of swimming races in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Loyola University in Maryland. If you are interested in watching, tune into Shaq VS on ABC at 9pm.
