Swim Meet Procedures for Parents

Prior to Arrival

  • The expected arrival time is always 15 minutes prior to the warm up time listed in the Meet Entry Packet
  • Allow extra time for traffic, weather or getting lost
  • Know the events your swimmer is entered in
  • Write your swimmer’s events on their hands with a Sharpie prior to arrival
  • Pack extra swim gear
  • Pack high energy snacks for your swimmer

Upon Arrival

  • If a USA meet, make sure your swimmer has highlighted their name at the swimmer check-in
  • Purchase a program and review it
  • Confirm that your swimmer is entered correctly in all their events, if not, contact the Head Coach
  • Look for other YPAC parents to sit with
  • Become familiar with the swimming venue both for yourself and your swimmer
  • If deck entries are allowed and desired, confirm with the Coaching Staff prior to entry

Demeanor

  • Let the coaching staff do the coaching
  • Watch your swimmer and then encourage them
  • Never criticize your swimmer
  • Parents are not allowed on the deck

Scratching

  • Your swimmer may not scratch their event without permission from the Coaching Staff

Prior to Departure

  • Pick up any awards at the Awards area
  • Never allow your swimmer to leave a meet early. Always check with the Coaching Staff and only leave with their approval. Your swimmer may be in a relay.
